I still don't like winter.

I tried. I really did. Every year I tell myself, "Maybe this is the year I'll finally like winter."

Nope. I still don't like winter. In fact, I've started calling it my depressed season. 😂

The endless blocked nose. The freezing cold feet. The struggle of getting out from underneath a warm, cozy blanket.

The sun disappears before I even feel like the day has started. Winter and I are simply not meant to be. And don't even get me started on getting dressed. I spend time choosing an outfit. I do my hair. I feel cute for about five minutes, then I remember it's winter. On goes the puffer jacket. Every. Single. Time. At this point, I think my puffer jacket has seen more outfits than anyone else.

Then there's the heater. I love being warm, but somehow the heater and I have a love-hate relationship too. After about an hour, my skin starts feeling dry, so I end up turning it off and walking around the house wearing my puffer jacket, fluffy socks, and tracksuit pants instead.

Honestly, that's been my winter uniform. And why are there always so many socks? I swear my laundry basket is 80% socks during winter.

Lately, our little one caught a cold too. Seeing her unwell made my heart ache. If I could swap places with her, I would. Those extra cuddles suddenly became medicine. Extra kisses somehow felt necessary. The tissues piled up a little faster than usual. I wish she didn't have to go through it.

One thing I became especially grateful for was Cool Fever patches. Watching your little one have a fever is never easy, but those little patches gave me a bit of peace of mind. Knowing she had something cool on her forehead somehow helped me stay calmer too. It made me think about how parents years ago had to keep changing wet towels over and over again just to help bring a fever down.

Sometimes I forget how many little things exist today that make parenting a little easier.

While I was sitting beside her, rubbing her back and making sure she was comfortable, another thought crossed my mind. As exhausting as it was. I'm grateful that I get to be the one taking care of her. I'm grateful I can be the person she looks for when she wants comfort. I'm grateful we have warm blankets, warm showers, hot soup, warm coffee, and a home that keeps the cold outside.

Winter still annoys me. A lot.

I'll probably still complain about it every single year. I still can't wait for spring. But I suppose winter has one redeeming quality. It reminds me to notice all the little things that make the cold a little easier. A warm blanket. A hot cup of coffee. A heater... even if we argue after an hour. A tiny Cool Fever patch. A sleepy toddler asking for one more cuddle.

Maybe winter and I will never be best friends. But I can still be thankful for the little warmth I find along the way.

I guess that's today's glitter.

Lots of glitter,
